The largest biomass quantity in the world is aquatic, and is found in the form of micro- and macro-algae (seaweed). GOA-ventures focuses on (bio-refining) multiple types of valuable extractions from macro-algae (seaweed). There are three classes of seaweeds: green, brown and red. These three classes can be divided up into a total of over 8000 species of seaweed. The GOA technology aims to work with all three classes. Each sea has its own ecosystem. In every sea, seaweed can grow. It is however likely that the bio-refinery process will need to be adapted to the various types and species of seaweed. The results so far indicated good protein extraction yields from all three classes (green, brown and red seaweed).
