Are you a Food Technology student (m/f/x) or studying a related field, and do you want to help build the protein transition of tomorrow?

GOA Ventures is offering an internship (4-6 months) for an enthusiastic BSc or MSc student. With our patented process, we isolate functional protein from seaweed and convert the remaining biomass into biogas. This allows us to produce sustainable food and energy, without using any land or fresh water. At GOA Ventures you will work closely with your colleagues, stay involved in what happens at every level of the company, and get the chance to make a real impact.

For this internship project, we are looking for an intern who wants to thoroughly characterise our seaweed protein. You will investigate the protein’s functional properties, such as gelling, foaming and emulsifying capacity, and explore how these properties can be influenced or improved.

In addition, you will assess the protein’s food safety and nutritional value, using both in-house methods and coordinating with external laboratories for analyses that we don’t have available in-house. With your results, you’ll help bring seaweed protein a step closer to the market.

Candidate profile

These qualities make you suitable for this role:

• A precise and analytical mindset, able to place specific results within in the bigger picture
• Takes ownership of own projects and is able to work independently
• Knowledge of or affinity with food technology, ingredient functionality and basic nutritional science
• Currently enrolled in a BSc or MSc programme
• Laboratory experience, able to work safely and accurately
• Good English level in both speaking and writing
• Interest in alternative proteins, sustainability and entrepeneurship
• Enthusiastic about working in a new, growing industry (seaweed!)

Practical information

For this internship we offer an internship allowance of €500 per month. The start date is flexible, from October 1st onwards. Our internships are full-time only.
